Ladle is built to keep your recipes on your own device, not on our servers. Here is exactly what happens with your data, in plain terms.
Everything you save, your recipes, shopping list, meal plan and notes, is stored in your browser's local storage on your phone or computer. We do not have a database of your recipes and we cannot see them.
When you paste a recipe URL to import it, that URL is sent to our import service so it can fetch the page and pull out the recipe. We do not store the URL or the page content on our end. It is used only to build the preview you see in the app.
The "Save to Ladle" Shortcut, and the bookmarklet for computers, read the recipe page inside your own browser and copy it to your clipboard. That copy stays on your device. The page content is not sent to us, and no server of ours sees it. Ladle then reads the clipboard when you tap Paste, pulls out the recipe, and saves it locally like any other recipe.
There is no sign up and no login. Ladle does not set tracking cookies and does not run analytics inside the app.
The backup file you can download from the More tab is saved by your browser to your own device. We never see it or receive a copy.
